Flat Roofing

Flat roofs are horizontal roofs with a very slight inclination (usually 10 degrees). Flat roofs can be made from a variety of different materials and substances, including: Asphalt built up roof (BUR), modified bitumen, Hypalon, PVC, TPO - Thermoplastic Polyolefin single-ply roofing and Mineral built up felt, lead roofs, fibre glass, Fibreglass GPR Roofing, EPDM - Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (synthetic rubber roofing). Flat roofs always have a base and a coating of some sort, all of which require inspection and maintenance on a regular basis.

Asphalt is a traditional form of roofing, only less than 5% of the roof materials on the market. When correctly installed they have a life expectancy of 25 years+.

Flat roofs are a distinguishing feature of modern architecture. However, flat roofs are more suited to residential buildings rather than industrial or commercial, as a flat roof will become gradually unstable as its size increases, and also exceedingly expensive. Roofer Sussex provides all possible repairs, maintenance and replacement services for both residential and commercial flat roofs.

All flat roofing products are guaranted. The life expectancy of a flat roof is relative to the amount of maintenance it receives. However, this can be influenced by the kind of material your flat roof is made of. All flat roofs should receive an inspection at least once a year, and should tend to the following more important aspects;

* Keeping roof drains clean and debris free, so that clogging won’t prevent water from being drained, causing an overload of weight.
* Preservation of roof coating, which prevents degradation by the sun and provides a water-tight membrane. This is especially important if you have a concrete flat roof.
* Prevention of water leakage. Approximately 90% of all flat roof leaks are caused by insufficient maintenance of flashings.

If you are unsure as to whether or not your flat roof is in need of repair or even replacement, a representative is always able to advise you on the right course of action.

The Pros and Cons of Owning a Flat Roof

* Flat roof construction is significantly cheaper than that of pitched roofs.
* When inspecting a flat roof, there is less chance of falling.
* Flat roofs are more easily accessible.

* Flat roof coatings are not a long as tiled roofs.
* Consistent maintenance is required, and replacement of a flat roof is both difficult and costly.
* Flat roof construction is not suitable to all kinds of buildings.

Roof Installation for Additions and Accessories

As you may or may not know, a roof is not just the outer layer of sheathing material – it is an entire unit made up of many sections that altogether contribute to the functionality and longevity of your roof. As such, there are a range of additions and accessories available that enhance a roof’s functionality. These may include guttering, fascias, flashings, piping, gutter guards, roof windows, skylights, insulation systems, and much more. Roofer Sussex offers roof installation services for all such additions, no matter what kind of roof or building you own. You may find that even the smallest addition will greatly affect your roof and its efficiency for the better. If you lack any of the above-mentioned additions, or feel that your roof could operate better, contact Roofer Sussex and inquire about roof installation for any of these systems.

Pitched Roofs

Pitched roofs need an inspection once a year to protect them from further defects. It would be advised to maintain any slight problems with any mortar or slipped tiles to increase its life and avoid any water issues, rotting timbers and any other issues that could occur.

Roof Installation

Roofing installation can be complicated work and should only ever be carried out by professional roofers. When it comes to roof installation, Roofer Sussex contractors simply exceed the standards. Our contractors specialize in all forms of roofing installation, including shingle installation, metal roof installation, flashings and guttering systems installation, and much more.

Fascias and Soffits

What is a Soffit?

A soffit is a hard-wearing board attached to the underside of the roofline assembly, which keeps the underside of the rafters secure and dry.

What is a Fascia?

A fascia board creates a support for the bottom edge of the rooftiles, and keeps out birds and vermin.

Why do I need my gutters cleaned?

Gutters that haven’t been cleaned tend to be full of debris. This debris causes water to back up and flow over the edge of the gutter causing various types of damage. Standing water can also cause sagging and rotting of your gutters which can cost you quite a lot to fix. The small investment to clean your gutters every six months or so will save you hundreds or thousands of pounds in the long term.

Timber fascias and soffits need constant attention and will eventually rot away and fail, and your home will diminish in protection and appearance. That's why we recommend uPVC.

UPVC Cladding

Timber cladding boards are generally used on the vertical sides of some buildings. They often cover a very large area, which can make their upkeep very expensive. Upvc replacement boards can also be used in a variety of other ways such as on the underside of wide porches or underneath car ports. The cladding boards will interlock so can be used to cover an area of almost any size. Because each board overlaps the next, all fixings such as nails can be hidden, leaving a clean, smooth finish. There is also a range of trims available to neatly finish off cladding edgings and any overhangs.

The cladding boards also come in a choice of additional colours including Mahogany, Rosewood, Golden Oak or Black. These can be easily matched to any coloured upvc window frames or fascia boards you currently have - helping you to create almost any style for the exterior of your home.

Roofer Sussex clean and clear your gutters to help maintain your existing guttering. Old gutters can be restored and a simple gutter cleaning and clear can often be all that is needed to solve overflow problems and gutter leaks.

Roofer Sussex repair and service most types and makes of gutters. We cater for large and small gutter repairs and welcome all enquiries. If your guttering is overflowing leaking or in need of service then give us a call. We inspect - then carry out gutter repairs - rather than automatically suggesting new guttering be installed.

Roofer Sussex supply and fit all types of new gutters and offer a full gutter replacement service when required. There are many reasons for having new gutters installed - and we as a local company - would be pleased to discuss all your requirements without obligation.

Without loft insulation you could be losing as much as 15% of your heating costs through your roof. If you currently have no loft insulation and you get installed the recommended 270mm depth you could save around £150 per year on your heating bills and around 1 tonne of carbon dioxide per year.
